College of Law and Management Studies Post-graduate bursaries in Local Economic Development through a partnership between University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) and the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development and Tourism

The University of KwaZulu- Natal (UKZN), in association with KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Department of Economic Development and Tourism, is seeking high calibre students for 2012 Post-graduate Diploma and Master of Commerce Degree focusing on Local Economic Development (LED).

This competitive block release programme is designed for working individuals who are role-players in LED and who meet UKZN criteria. Role-players include:

  • Municipal Councilor with a LED portfolio
  • Municipal Managers, LED Managers, LED officers and other local government officials with a LED Mandate
  • National and Provincial officials with a LED Mandate (Department of Agriculture, Department of Land Affairs, Arts and Tourism etc.)
  • Business and Sector organizations and office bearers (Business Chambers, Farmers Unions, Manufacturing Associations, Community Tourism Organisations, Sector Clusters and Networks
  • Development and Finance Institutions working in the province of KwaZulu-Natal (Development Agencies, IDC, Commercial banks etc
  • Senior Office bearers and officials of Civil Society organizations with an LED mandate

As LED is an integrative discipline, the entrance requirement for the Post-Graduate Diploma is an undergraduate degree or equivalent from any discipline. The Masters Programme requires a 3 year undergraduate degree plus honours or an equivalent further qualification, or a four year professional degree.
