COGTA MEC Nomusa Dube officially opens Durban Sustainable Living Exhibition

The MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal, Ms Nomusa Dube, has today, 6 September, officially opened the three day, Sustainable Living Exhibition, which is being co-hosted by the eThekwini Metropolitan and the Provincial Government. This year’s event has drawn hundreds of exhibitors who are showcasing the latest developments aimed at helping consumers live lifestyles that promote the wellbeing of the environment.

In her speech the MEC called for residents of eThekwini, to lower their carbon footprint, through using innovative ways that are showcased in the exhibition. “We have to take the lead as residents to ensure that we do not destroy our environment, since it belongs to our children. The world is struggling right now to cope with the amount of natural disasters that are tracked to the global phenomenon of global warming. We each can do something today, to ensure that we do not contribute this worsening situation. Let us chose to use products and means that protect our environment and promote sustainable living,” said Dube.

The exhibition, which is only in it’s third year, has attracted thousands of learners and students from the surrounding schools and Universities. According to Dube, the youth are strong ambassadors for the message of sustainable living. “The children that we see today, attending this exhibition are the ones that will be asking their parents this evening about their families putting into practise measures that they would have learned about today,” said Dube.

The exhibition will finish of Sunday, 8 September 2013.
