Bogus nurse arrested for soliciting bribes at a hospital

A 29 year old female (whose identity is known to the department) posing as a nurse was caught by the South African Police Service members after she solicited bribes from members of the public who were desperate for jobs.

Her arrest follows complains, to the hospital management, by two members of the public who claim to have paid the lady bribes ranging between R500 and R 5000 for jobs at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Central Hospital. It is alleged that she claims to have contacts inside the hospital that would ensure that those who pay her the bribe are employed.

Police from the nearby Cato Manor Police station were called in and arrested the young woman. She is kept in police custody awaiting court appearance on Wednesday at the Durban Magistrate Court.

The Department is concerned with the sudden increase of claims that there are syndicates soliciting bribes in the promise for jobs in the department. The reporting of such elements, to the appropriate authorities, is the only solution to ensure that they are identified and arrested.
