Amavulandlela Scouts Convention in Mpumalanga, Hammarsdale

The MEC for Agriculture and Environmental Affairs Dr Meshack Radebe together with the Deputy Minister of Finance Nhlanhla Musa Nene, attended the Amavulandlela Scouts Convention held in Mpumalanga Hammarsdale. The Amavulandlela Scouts where founded in 1959 by schools in previously disadvantaged communities in KwaZulu-Natal.

The purpose was to develop scouts skills within the children of these schools and to assist in certain community needs.One of their main programmes is the Food for Life Poverty Alleviation Programme through the planting of vegetable gardens in schools and communities.

All scout groups from schools throughout the province converged in Mpumalanga, Hammarsdale for the convention. The MEC and Deputy Minister were shown different innovations constructed by the scout groups for survival in the bush which are all made from natural substances.
