The Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (DAFF) invites stakeholders to celebrate with the World Health Organisation (WHO), the World Health Day with ‘’Food Safety’’ as the theme. This occasion also celebrates the WHO’s birthday.
The WHO is the directing and coordinating authority for health within the United Nations System. It is responsible for providing leadership on health matters, shaping the health research agenda, setting norms and standards, articulating evidence-based policy options, providing technical support to countries and monitoring and assessing health trends.
DAFF will continue to develop policies and regulatory measures which support the Industry to produce food that is safe. Through various pieces of legislation developed by this Department we will ensure that food does not pose any food safety threat to the ultimate consumer. Food safety has become the currency to access lucrative markets across the globe.
Food safety is the responsibility of all stakeholders along the food production value chain, i.e. “from farm to plate.’’ The department will foster multisectoral collaboration to achieve sustainable and solid food systems by ensuring closer collaboration between the various sectors involved in food (agriculture, human health, animal health, trade, tourism, etc.) to strengthen prevention, control and appropriate response to foodborne diseases.
