Symposium to come up with database of service available for victims of crime and violence

"Build a united front against crime", an initiative launched by the KwaZulu-Natal provincial government in January 2010 as a call to ALL of us whether as ordinary citizens, academics, government or any other organised structure to join hands and play a role in the fight against crime.

This initiative is now being taken a step further with a symposium that is aimed at looking at another face of crime, which is "victims".

The provincial government, through the MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Willies Mchunu, is now looking at how different groups are being affected by acts of crime.

Stakeholders in the victim empowerment arena have been invited to meet in Durban and come up with an intervention plan as well as a database of services available to victims of crime and violence, so that service delivery to them will be improved through a better coordinated referral system. In that way secondary victimisation will be avoided.

Members of the media are invited to attend the two day event to be held as follows:

Date: 21 to 22 May 2010
Time: 08h00 on both days
Venue: The Olive Convention Centre, Durban Beach Front
