KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Finance, Ms Ina Cronjé, in partnership with Zimele, a non profit organisation, will on Tuesday, 23 August 2011 celebrate a Women’s Month with women of integrity who have empowered themselves with financial, business and social skills that saw them out of the cycle of poverty in a deeply impoverished village of Swayimane in Wartburg.
Like other rural areas in KwaZulu-Natal, Swayimane village is poverty-striken. Despite the socio-economic challenges in the area and appalling financial illiteracy worsened by very low levels of education, some of these rural women have managed to beat all odds and arm themselves with basic skills necessary to develop emotional and financial independence.
MEC Cronjé is passionate about financial literacy in the province and she believes that no economy can grow by excluding any part of its people. Zimele initiative is aimed at empowering primarily women by organising them into self-help groups and provides valuable training and support, they are also part of the KwaZulu-Natal Financial Literacy Association which is championed by MEC Cronjé.
All media houses are invited to be part of this historic celebration in the event that is scheduled as follows:
