Improving the performance of learners in Maths, Science and Technology still remains a focus area for the department. The provision of adequate resources and infrastructure to enable teachers to teach these subjects is crucial.
Often these subjects require learners to conduct experiments and apply practical work in order to help them grasp certain concepts. Having the right equipment and infrastructure in schools is key in enabling teachers to teach Maths, Science and Technology.
Infrastructure development is a challenge especially in schools that are in rural areas and addressing these infrastructure backlogs will cost millions if not billions of rands. It is for this reason that the department has called on its stakeholders including businesses to lend a hand in its quest to provide quality education to learners.
The Transnet National Ports Authority heeded the department’s call and thanks to their generous donation to three schools (Manzamhlophe High School, Velangaye High School and Batshazwayo High School) in Empangeni District will receive mobile laboratories worth R250 000 each. The mobile laboratories are furnished and fitted with equipment.
The MEC for Education Senzo Mchunu and Mr Thami Ntshingila from Transnet National Ports Authority will officially handover the three mobile laboratories at an event to take place as follows:
Date: Friday, 1 July 2011
Venue: Manzamhlophe High School, Obuka (Lower Umfolozi)
Time: 13h00
The media is invited to attend and report on this event.
