The MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal, Mr. Senzo Mchunu, will on Saturday 18 August officially open Zwelinzima Secondary School which is situated at Sisonke District under Umzimkhulu Circuit in Samaria Ward.
This official opening is one of numerous projects aimed at improving access to quality education for the people of Umzimkhulu since the area came under the province of KwaZulu-Natal. Zwelinzima Senior Secondary school was a mud school and has benefited from a project by the department to eradicate mud schools in the province.
The new building (which costs the department R16, 026,733) includes a double story structure with eight classrooms, two multipurpose classrooms, one media centre, one Kitchen, one Administration Block with two offices, one storeroom and 26 toilets. The department also built a strong room for keeping financial documents and exams related material.
“In line with government’s priority of delivering quality service to all in South Africa including rural areas, the department, through its organisational review, created a new directorate that will focus on rural education. As such, the main focus of rural education is knowledge, physical and socio-cultural access,” said MEC Mchunu.
