Music and sport activities to light up Umkhanyakude District as government unveils multi-million developmental projects and launches Magnficent Fridays Campaign

The area of Umkhanyakude will be a hive of activity over the weekend as the Departments of Arts and Culture and Sport and Recreation will descend on the district to unveil a variety of developmental projects, launch the Magnificent Campaign and celebrate the local leg of International Women’s Day activities.

The first stop will be Jozini CBD on Friday, where MEC Weziwe Thusi will be joined by community leaders, government officials and well known artists, in the launch of the Magnificent Fridays campaign. The campaign entails interacting with members of the public, distributing information on national symbols and is aimed at whipping up support for the country’s national teams (netball, football and cricket) that are taking part in the World Cup this year.

The Magnificent Friday’s campaign will then proceed to Ngwavuma CBD and then newly built Ngwavuma Sportsfield, which MEC Thusi will officially open. The sports field comprises basic sports field fenced with steel palisade fencing change rooms, public ablutions, grassing/pitch catering for football, athletics, rugby, and combo courts for netball, volleyball, basketball. This at a cost of R1,5 million.

There will be a variety of games that will be played such as cricket, netball, aero gymnastics, and ladies soccer. Rugby clinics will also be conducted. Fans of indigenous games will also feel at home as umlabalaba, magenda and induku will be played.

Celebrities that will be part of the entourage will be artists Thokozani Langa, L’vovo, Sifiso Ncwane, Big Nuz and Ukhozi FM DJ Sipho Mbatha.

On Saturday, Ndumo will play host to the extravaganza where a similar interaction will kickstart activities of the day. MEC Thusi will then officially open Ndumo Sports complex. The complex comprises concrete palisade fencing, change rooms, public ablutions and grassing/pitch. It caters for football, athletics, rugby, and combo courts for netball, volleyball, basketball. The event will be attended by well-known artists such as Professor, Izintombi zikaMjaphani, DJs Cndo, Happy Gal and S'thandwa Nzuza.
