KwaZulu-Natal launched a scaled up male medical circumcision programme in April 2010. To date the province has successfully, without any negative incident being reported and circumcised 64773 up to July 2011. The province was heralded at the recent World and South African AIDS Conferences for implementing a successful circumcision programme from which most countries are visiting the Province to learn from especially the incorporation of both traditional and medical science methods.

In the month of August MEC Dhlomo hosted the Free State Premier His Excellency Ace Magashule and his Cabinet who also visited various hospitals to learn, share information and best practices on improving the delivery of healthcare services. They were also interested in learning about the scale up of male medical circumcision which has been accepted as part of the HIV prevention arsenal.

The province has a strong relationship with Maputo Province (of Mozambique) dating back a few years. In 2007 the former Premier of KwaZulu-Natal Dr Sibusiso Ndebele (now Minister of Transport) signed a Memorandum of Understanding with his Maputo counterpart. In August this year the Director-General of the province Mr Nhlanhla Ngidi led a delegation of heads of departments to strengthen relations with Maputo.
