Minister of Health Dr Aaron Motsoaledi to brief the media on the National Health Insurance (NHI) public consultation roadshow in KwaZulu-Natal

The Minister of Health Dr Aaron Motsoaledi is to spend nine days in KwaZulu-Natal consulting the various publics on the pilot phase of the National Health Insurance (NHI). The Minister kick started his road show visiting the pilot districts to engage stakeholders such as Members of Parliament, General Practitioners, Healthcare professionals, Councilors, Mayors, Unions, etc., on the NHI process and to invite their views on the NHI roll out.

Journalists and reporters are invited to a media briefing and one on one interview with the Minister, KZN Health MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo, the Director-General and the KZN Head of Department to take place as follows:

Date: Sunday, 27 May 2012
Time: 12h00 (transport departing from Durban, Playhouse at 9h00)
Venue: Battlefields Resort, Dundee

(NB: Please RSVP attendance to reserve space on transport)

Minister Motsoaledi announced three (out of ten, nationally) Districts that will pilot the introduction of the NHI. Announcing these Districts Minister Motsoaledi said “…we have reached a point of no return on this issue of Universal Coverage through NHI. The pilot phase seeks to ensure that preconditions, especially dealing with the quality of care in the public service, are in place before the full roll out of the NHI. It is believed that within a five year period all Districts will fully covered and the country will be “able to march forward towards our fourteen years of implementation of NHI.”

In KwaZulu-Natal the Minister will kick start his road show in uMzinyathi on 27 to 29 May 2012, followed by uMgungundlovu from 10 to 12 June 2012 and end with Amajuba Districts from 13 to 15 June 2012.
