The Minister of Agriculture,Willie Aucamp, will brief the media following a meeting with the organisations that instituted legal proceedings against the department regarding its management of the Foot and mouth disease (FMD) outbreak and related issues, including the procurement of vaccines and the implementation of biosecurity measures. The meeting participants include the three main litigants who are involved in the case, namely: Sakeliga, South African Agri Initiative (SAAI) and Free State Agriculture.
Minister Aucamp believes the meeting is the first step in trying to settle the legal case, while also establishing a clear path toward the joint resolution of the issues and restoring the relationship between the department, the sector and other interested parties.
