KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) Premier Senzo Mchunu invites members of the media to a media briefing scheduled as follows:
Date: Wednesday, 23 July 2014
Time: 13h00
Venue: Tiger Lodge, Jozini
KZN Premier and members of his executive council are on a fact-finding mission in UMkhanyakude District Municipality as part of efforts aimed at assessing the implementation of a R1,1 billion Integrated Development Plan of Makhathini Flats.
“During the State of the Province Address I announced that before the end of July the entire executive council will spend two days in Makhathini Flats. We are visiting many projects with a view of ensuring that we end the long chapter on researches, workshops, experiments and discussions.”
“We are here to interact with role-players and to identify bottlenecks which we must remove in order to unlock the potential of Makhathini Flats.”
“We are cognizant of the fact that Makhathini Flats is strategically located within the cross-border of Lubombo Spatial Development Initiative (SDI) – involving South Africa, Swaziland and Mozambique. This area can produce sufficient agricultural products for South Africa and for export to the neighbouring countries and international markets through Dube Trade Port, O.R Tambo International Airport and our harbours. Bold steps are however needed to turn Makhathini Flats around.”
“Tomorrow, the executive council will have a formal sitting here in Umkhanyakude. On top of the agenda is the effective implementation of the Makhathini Integrated Development Plan. The entire plan focuses on agriculture, tourism and infrastructure development,” the Premier concluded.
