The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, will today pay a visit to a doctor who contracted tuberculosis (TB) while caring for patients in one of the Department's hospital.
"An effective exposure control programme should have responsible people assigned to lead the programme and a committee (such as an infection-control or health and safety committee) that includes representatives from workers and managers to evaluate the hazards, compile data, and make recommendations for prevention" says the MEC for Health, Dr Dhlomo.
The MEC will visit the doctor (Dr Pather) to show support and to hear from her how she had been supported by the department in her predicament. The MEC came to know and appreciate the extent of the problem following an SABC Special Assignment programme flighted on 23 March 2010 where the story of Dr Pather was featured.
