MEC Mchunu to visit the families of eleven accident victims killed on the N2

MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Willies Mchunu will visit the families of the eleven victims today (12 August 2011) who were killed in gruesome accident that occurred on the N2 yesterday (11 August 2011) afternoon involving a truck and a minibus.

Preliminary reports reveal that the minibus was travelling towards Ulundi when its left rear tyre came off, causing the driver to lose control and collide with a truck. Nine people died at the scene while two others died at a later stage including a nine month old baby. Two patients are in a critical condition, one was air lifted to Inkosi Albert Luthuli Memorial Hospital. The remaining four patients, including the truck driver, were all treated for serious injuries including possible neck and back injuries and broken limbs.
