MEC Mchunu to launch Uthukela District multi-sectoral strategic plan for HIV and AIDS

KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Mr Willies Mchunu, district champion for Uthukela, will tomorrow (1 December 2011) launch the multi sectoral strategic plan for HIV/AIDS, with this plan the government hopes to reduce the HIV/AIDS prevalence in the province.

World AIDS day is an international day on action against HIV/AIDS which takes place every year on the 1st of December 2011. Observing this day provides an opportunity for government, non-government organizations, churches, community organizations and individuals to demonstrate the importance of the fight against HIV/AIDS.

“Getting to Zero” is this year’s theme. This theme seeks to encourage Zero AIDS related deaths, Zero new HIV infections and Zero discrimination.

Mchunu will be accompanied by the district and local mayors, executive council from all municipalities in the district, members of the district and local AIDS councils, traditional leaders, traditional health practitioners and the community of Bergville.
