MEC Mchunu to launch Operation Hlasela and lead the walk for the fight against crime in Umlazi

MEC for Community Safety and Liaison Willies Mchunu will be launching Operation Hlasela at uMlazi Tomorrow, 17 February 2011. He is also expected to officiate the opening of uMlazi Metro Police Station, together with the Durban Mayor Councillor Obed Mlaba.

MEC Mchunu and other delegates are expected to lead the walk about against crime campaign. The first group that will start from Umlazi ComTech at 08h00 and a second group will walk from the Executive Hotel at 08h00. The two groups will finally meet at the King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi at 10h00.

This walk-about-against-crime initiative seeks to give community members and other crime fighting structures an opportunity to demonstrate their unity in the fight against crime and to show their frustration with the crime levels within their communities.

As part of the multiple of activities, there will be multi-faith service where all religious leaders will lead in prayer to revive the Umlazi community and to encourage church members to commit themselves to report crime and to assist law enforcement agencies in the fight against crime.

The core message for this day is: We have had enough of criminal activities in our communities; we have had enough of youth using drugs or substance abuse, car hijackings but most importantly, we say no to whoonga!
