The MEC for Health, Dr (Brigadier-General) Sibongiseni Dhlomo; invites the media to a parade where the MEC will be thanking the South African Military Health Services (SAMHS) for their assistance during the public servants strike.
The SAMHS were deployed to various hospitals that were hard hit by the strike to provide healthcare to the thousands of patients who were left unattended by the striking healthcare workers.
They delivered tens of newborns and attended to a number of patients who were in hospitals for a number of ailments.
As the strike intensified and patients on chronic medication unable to get their medications, the army was at hand to help in dispensing medications to patients with tuberculosis, HIV, hypertension and other similar chronic conditions.
The parade will be attended by senior officers of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and senior officials of the department.
