MEC for Health to lead the KwaZulu-Natal Government during Candlelight Memorial commemoration

The MEC for Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, will lead the government’s commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial which is commemorated annually on the third Sunday of May.

The KwaZulu-Natal government’s event will be held on the 28 May 2009 at Ixopo to mark a quarter century of remembrance, community mobilisation and solidarity. For 25 years, the Candlelight Memorial has brought people together in every corner to honour those lost to AIDS and demonstrate the importance of civil society, a movement in step with the spread of the disease itself.

To commemorate this special occasion, the KwaZulu-Natal government will lead the people of the province under the theme “together we are the solution.” to reflect the crossroads in time this memorial represents, and reminds us that we must learn from the past and never give up our collective movement as we enter a new generation with the disease.
