MEC Dhlomo to visit RK Khan hospital and KwaDabeka clinic to commemorate the International Nurses day tomorrow

Postponed until further notice

To mark the commemoration of the International Nurses Day on May 12, the MEC for Health in KwaZulu-Natal, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, together with leaders from unions representing nurses will visit RK Khan hospital and KwaDabeka Clinic.

“We are bonded by the Nurses Compact – a Declaration of the Nursing Summit held in April, which bonds us, as partners, in the delivery of health care services,” says MEC Dhlomo. “So, this day will be a day where we cement the bonds that were created during the summit, reaffirm the commitments made and rally all nurses towards the goals of high quality and accessible health care.”

Journalists are invited to be part of the MEC’s visits that will be as follows;

Date: 12 May 2011 (Thursday)
Time: 07h30
Venue: RK Khan Hospital, Chatsworth

Time: 08h30
Venue: KwaDabeka Community Health Centre, KwaDabeka

Time: 10h00
Venue: Edendale Hospital, Pietermaritzburg

The department views this day as a ‘special occasion’ where the great achievements in the delivery of health care must be heralded. “We want to draw strength, hope and courage from the words of the President who acknowledged the nurse’s values of sacrifice, caring for others and putting the patient first before other considerations,” says MEC Dhlomo.
