MEC Dhlomo to take the NHI discussions to the rural community of Maphumulo

On Thursday, 15 September 2011 the MEC for Health Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo will take the discussion on the National Health Insurance (NHI) to the community of Maphumulo as he hands over 14 million rands extensions to Mbhekaphansi Clinic.

Journalists are invited to the event and public discussion to be held in Mathafeni Sports Ground KwaMxhosa (kwaMaphumulo) on Thursday, 15 September 2011, at 11h00. Kindly indicate transport requirements.

Following the release of the Green Paper on the NHI in August, MEC Dhlomo will introduce the discussion to the rural people in order for them to give their views. “The public’s views and wishes must be expressed in the final document on NHI. Rural communities are our major clients in the public health sector and I believe that if they are not allowed to express their views the whole process will have failed the key people whose health needs it seeks to address,” asserts MEC Dhlomo.

The public meeting and event will be preceded by a meeting with stakeholders in the iLembe District which will be held at kwaSizabantu Mission School Hall at 10h00. At this meeting the MEC will be rallying community stakeholders to play a role in the transformation of the public health sector and to call on the community leaders to work with the department in realising the outcomes of the Provincial Health Summit recently held on the 2 to 4 September 2011.
