MEC Dhlomo to present his Budget Vote at the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature

On Friday, 25 March 2011, the MEC for Health Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo will present his department’s budget vote (seven) to the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Legislature. The budget vote is a presentation of the department’s priorities in 2011/12 as well as allocation of finances to ensure the implementation of the priorities.

"Our government in KwaZulu-Natal is of the view that if we change the health outcomes in this province, the whole country’s health picture would change for the better,” says MEC Dhlomo. “Since the renewed mandate that this government received in 2009; we need to move quickly in meeting some of the international goals that our government has committed itself to - such as the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) three of which speak to our goal of building a better life for all.”

Over the last two years the MEC has highlighted the need for the department to improve maternal, child and women’s health, the general quality of care, ensuring that correctly qualified people are placed at leadership positions in hospitals and clinics, fighting fraud and corruption and ensuring that the department increases its bursary provisions to students wishing to do health related professions.

Imbued by the government’s realisation that there have been many achievements in improving access to healthcare, much more needs to be done in terms of quality of care, and by making services available to all South Africans through ensuring better health outcomes; the MEC will present the Health budget vote as follows:
