The MEC for Health in KwaZulu-Natal Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo invites journalists’ reporters and news editors to a press briefing on pertinent and current issues in the Department of Health. The briefing will take place on the sidelines of the Provincial Health Council meeting.
The briefing will be held as follows:

The Provincial Health Council is statutory body established in terms of the National Health Act (ACT 61 OF 2003) to; “advise the relevant member of the Executive Council…” The Provincial Health Council “consists of- (a) the relevant member of the Executive Council, or his or her nominee, who acts as chairperson; (b) one Councillor from each of the metropolitan municipalities in the province if there are such municipalities in the province in question; (c) one Councillor from each of the district municipalities in the province; (d) the head of the provincial department; (e) not more than three representatives involved in the management of local government; and (f) such number of other persons as the relevant member of the Executive Council may consider appropriate.”
The Council will deliberate on, amongst other things, the:
(i) State of Health in the province,
(ii) Report on Laundry Services,
(iii) Programme to increase the number of doctors and other healthcare professionals, and
(iv) Progress on the National Health Insurance pilot.
The MEC and the Head of Department will also brief the media on these issues.
