MEC Cronjé launches Airport initiatives in rural Ulundi

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Finance, Ms Ina Cronjé, in partnership with Zululand District Municipality, will on, Friday 14 October 2011, announce the launch of a number of Ulundi Airport initiatives in a bid to prepare the rural Zululand District to compete in the global 21st century economy with the resources necessary to stimulate private investment and economic growth.

Air transportation is becoming the preferred choice for business and industry decision makers. Most decision makers in business and public sector including community leaders are invited to embrace this launch, which entails among other things the announcement of the new airline/service provider, R30 million for critical infrastructure improvements and a comprehensive strategy necessary to enhance tourism opportunities.

Transportation plays a crucial role in the sustainable development of rural areas and small communities. The recent inspection visit to Ulundi Airport by MEC Cronjé has resulted to the provincial government pumping R30 million towards the infrastructure revamp of the airport, to stimulate a sustainable economic development and to support the transportation needs of entrepreneurs and small business owners in the region.
