KwaZulu–Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison Mr Willies Mchunu will address the community of Umlazi at Cwebezela Higher Primary School at 09h30 on Sunday, 29 November 2009, on issues of crime in the area and the existence of vigilante groups which are terrorizing the community.
There has been an enormous cry from the people of Umlazi Section L about the escalation of crime in the area and the South African Police Services (SAPS) not responding optimistically; as a result the community formed vigilante groups.
The key message that the MEC will be emphasising is "CRIME won't be tolerated nor will vigilante groups".
"The government will not tolerate criminal elements that are pursuing their mischievous interests compromising public safety in the process. Police officers need to play their part as well as communities to establish legitimate policing structures," says Mchunu.
All media are invited to attend.
