KwaZulu-Natal Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize and the provincial government will host the President of India, HE Mrs Pratibha Patil during her three-day visit to KwaZulu-Natal.
The visit, at the request of President Jacob Zuma, is aimed at strengthening the existing ties and goodwill between India and South Africa, which is based on a shared history of struggle.
Mrs Patil and her delegation will visit a number of culturally significant sites around Durban and Pietermaritzburg, including the home of Mahatma Gandhi in Pheonix Settlement, and the site where Gandhi was thrown off a "whites only" train coach in Pietermaritzburg Train Station.
