The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Health and head of department together with Cause Marketing Fundraisers (CMF), Sinothandonomusa and other political leaders will roll out a breast cancer screening campaign, which aims to encourage women to get screened for breast cancer and to increase awareness amongst communities.
Breast cancer, especially amongst women, has become a concern all over the world. In South Africa it is estimated that one in every 10 women will contract some form of breast cancer.
Under the theme: "Early detection saves lives, Access to all", it is aimed that the focus will be that of "capacitating women to be the architects of their own destinies. 2010 stresses that women need no longer be victims. In order that the fault lines are defined clearly women all over the world must be proactive in being part of the total value chain of raising awareness of various forms of breast cancer and be knowledgeable about the treatment and support options available to them," the MEC, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, believes.
The Pink Drive, Breast Cancer Awareness and Advocacy Campaign 2010 focus is two pronged: firstly, it seeks to create awareness around breast cancer through advocacy and secondly to provide screening and mammography testing. The aim is therefore to establish an effective breast cancer campaign that translates into sustainable programme of action.
Women in powerful, leadership positions would lead the campaign of providing the necessary support and motivation needed to ensuring that societal systems assist all victims of breast cancer in accessing the necessary treatment.
