KwaZulu-Natal to host crucial two-day Radical Economic Transformation Summit in Durban

Government policy makers and business formations will from tomorrow, 28 March 2019, gather over two days at Durban's Olive Convention Centre at a summit intended to map a clear pathway for the  acceleration of the province's radical economic transformation agenda.

The summit is a timely intervention in the face of growing disillusionment with the pace of economic transformation from some sections of society.

Mr Sihle Zikalala, the MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in KwaZulu-Natal forecasts that the summit will be characterised by robust and frank engagements.

“The provincial government has done extensive work in terms of preparing for the summit. We have engaged various stakeholders including business formations such as the Federation for Radical Economic Transformation and we are confident that the summit will not be a talk shop."

Mr Zikalala added that while a lot has been achieved to extricate Black Africans, women and the youth in particular from the nervous conditions of economic seclusion and poverty, a lot more still needed to be done.

"We are under no illusions about the work that still remains in terms of ensuring a broader participation in the mainstream of the economy from those who were previously marginalised. As KwaZulu-Natal we are saying that we intend using the increased appetite for investment into the province as a springboard to ensure that we build an inclusive economy that is broadly representative of the province's demographics," concluded MEC Zikalala.

Members of the media are cordially invited to cover this ground-breaking summit which is scheduled as follows:
