The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health will be hosting the first KwaZulu-Natal Comprehensive HIV and AIDS Care Management and Treatment (CCMT) Summit that is aimed at taking stock of HIV and AIDS programmes in the province where all stakeholders will meet and deliberate on what has happened, and also chart a way forward on how to improve the delivery of HIV (and related disease programmes, such as tuberculosis) programmes to the future.
This historic Summit will be held from the 26 to 28 October 2009 at Alpine Health Resort in Drakensburg under the theme; "Scaling up Universal Access". Its main objectives include:
* to take stock of the inroads made in the implementation of the CCMT programmes
* to share best practices in the CCMT programmes
* explore challenges and seek new ways of expanding access to the programme, and
* ppdate delegates on the strategic directions and on the goals of HIV and AIDS National Strategic Plan.
The Summit will cover topics such as:
* current and emerging issues
* best Practices in CCMT
* bridging Gaps and finding solutions
* scaling up
* strategic directions, response and progress.
Delegates will be coming from health care workers, academia and non-governmental organisations. There are at least 18 renowned speakers who will be presenting on various aspects of the CCMT programme. The integration of the CCMT programme with the TB programme is an outstanding issue on the agenda.
The Head of Department, Dr Sibongile Zungu, will officially open the Summit and journalists are invited to attend this historic Summit to be held as follows:
