KwaZulu-Natal Climate Change Council

Media is invited to attend the first inaugural meeting of the KwaZulu-Natal Climate Change Council scheduled to take place as follows:

Date: Wednesday, 19 September 2012
Venue: Pietermaritzburg City Hall
Time: 14h00 to 17h00

Remarked Dr Zweli Mkhize: “This meeting is a culmination of months of hard work and consultation with many stakeholders in the province and at national level.”

“Importantly, the meeting is a clear proof that we were not paying leap service when we announced as government after Pre-Corp 17 Summit held at the ICC last year on 27 September 2011 that the provincial government was committed to working with different leaders of society and private sector to ensure that KwaZulu-Natal becomes a model of a province that is greener, cleaner, sustainable and prosperous.”

“The hosting of Pre Corp 17 summit by this province and the hosting of Corp 17 Summit itself by the South African government generated a huge amount of optimism especially about the future success in fighting for the amelioration of future climatic conditions.”

“We are calling upon all stakeholders – representatives from industry, non-governmental organizations, civil society, academics, religious leaders, traditional leaders, leaders of all political parties and the media to work with government to refine and implement our programme of action on Climate change.”
