Japanesse Government invites Dr Zweli Mkhize

KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Dr Zweli Mkhize’s drive to position this province as a destination for foreign direct investment has attracted the attention of the Japanese government. The premier has been invited by the Embassy of Japan to visit that country from the 23 to the 30 March 2012.

The objective of this visit is to offer the Premier an opportunity to deepen his understanding of Japan through a study tour of the available opportunities.

“As a pre-cursor to this visit to Japan, I will meet with representatives of Japanese companies that are based here in KwaZulu-Natal, particularly Toyota, as well as other Japanese enterprises.”

“One can never over-emphasise the contribution that has been made by the motor-car industry to our economy, especially by the Japanese. The investment by Toyota Boshoku few years ago shows clearly that South Africa in general, and specifically our province, has the necessary conditions for good returns on investment.

South Africa today is one of the most sophisticated and promising emerging markets globally. The unique combination of a highly developed first-world economic infrastructure and a huge emergent market economy has given rise to a strong entrepreneurial and dynamic investment environment.”

“I have assembled a high-powered delegation to accompany me on this visit to Japan. These include MEC for Economic Development and Tourism, Mr Mike Mabuyakhulu and CEOs of Trade Investment KwaZulu-Natal and KwaZulu-Natal Tourism Authority.”

“The areas of focus for this visit include appointments with experts from government and private sector, industrial and cultural institutions, trade and investment institutions, car manufacturing industry, port development, tea industry, recycling and waste management system.”
