Invitation: Launch of the Sheleni Citrus Project in Nkandla

MEC for Agriculture, Environmental Affairs and Rural Development, Mrs Lydia Johnson will host the launch of the Sheleni Citrus Project. This is part of the department’s continuing efforts to ensure food security and the commercial viability of farming in the entire Province by creating markets for the farmers.

This citrus initiative is envisaged to make a profound impact on the lives of the local people, as more than 250 people will benefit from the project. The long-term project aims, amongst others, include; rural economic development, creation of jobs and eradication of poverty, skills development, mitigation to climate change effects (ravine\soil erosion etc), participation of rural communities in business ventures, setting up of agro-processing plant and related activities, development of necessary infrastructure, utilising existing local skills developed through cooperative training and improving the quality of life of local communities.
