In partnership with the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine innovation in hospital design and architecture will be under the spotlight when Health Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi and the International Academy for Design and Health in partnership with the College of Health Sciences unveil the biggest design competition at the University of KwaZulu-Natal on Friday, 7 September 2012.
Entries will be expected from national and international experts, including architects, engineers, individuals and multi-disciplinary teams in the field of health science facility planning and design to design the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine (UKZN) and King Edward VIII Hospital.
The aim of the design competition is to inspire innovation in the field of hospital design and develop the necessary skills.
The winning design will be used to construct the King Edward VIII Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal province.
KwaZulu-Natal Health MEC, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo and representatives of the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA) and the National Treasury will form part of the launch.
