The Winter Youth Camp to rev learners to social cohesion and nation building

About 300 learners from different schools in the province will benefit from the Provincial Youth Camp which will run from the 24 to 28 June 2013 at the University of Zululand.

This Youth Camp is organised by the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Arts and Culture in partnership with and the Department of Education its itinerary boasts of activities geared for learners which include culture education, presentation on life and career skills, dialogue sessions and some sporting activities.

These sessions will also include an intercultural and intergenerational dialogue. Through the dialogue learners can share insight and values on issues that contribute to social cohesion.

Topics for dialogues will include:

  • children and women abuse,
  • spread of HIV/AIDS,
  • substance abuse,
  • lack of family values,
  • decline in high morals such as respect and ubuntu (humanity)
  • as well as Cultural intolerance (Xenophobia).

The Head of Department of Arts and Culture Mrs Sibongile Nzimande will officially open the camp on Tuesday, 25 June at 09h00.
