Statistics South Africa conducts Citizen Satisfaction Survey in KwaZulu-Natal, 12 Oct

The voice of the ordinary citizens of KZN will be heard through a Statistics South Africa (StatsSA) conducted Citizen Satisfaction Survey (CSS) in KwaZulu-Natal, which will help the Office of the Premier to make informed decisions to improve the lives of the citizen of KZN.

The survey is the product of cooperation between the Office of the Premier and Stats SA and will be conducted among a selected sample of citizens of the province to assess their level of satisfaction with service delivery.

The survey will make data accessible to all citizens on the levels of satisfaction with regard to service delivery by government departments in the province. It will also serve as an indicator on governance efficiency for Goal 6 (i.e. Governance) of the Provincial Growth and Development Plan (PGDP).

The CSS will provide data at local municipality level reflecting the views, opinions and perspectives on service delivery in the province. The questionnaire will be administered to adult members of households residing in selected Dwelling Units (DU) drawn from a municipal level representative sample.

The target population are all persons aged 15 years and above who are residing in private dwellings within the province of KwaZulu-Natal. In addition, this will be the first time that such a survey will be conducted by handheld electronic devices making it the first paperless survey conducted by Stats SA.

Stats SA will deliver a statistical report on the level of citizen’s satisfaction which reflects the perceptions and perspectives for service delivery improvement to the Office of the Premier. The survey report will include:

  • Analysis of citizen service delivery perspectives aligned to different spheres of government (national, provincial and municipal);
  • Overall satisfaction with services provided by national, provincial and municipal government providing an assessment of the quality of services received by citizens of the Province.

Data collection for the CSS will commence on 12 October where trained fieldworkers will visit the sampled households in KZN. Stats SA will utilise its fieldwork expertise and conduct the survey over a period of six weeks and deploy the latest data collection methods that involve the use of electronic devises that will ensure that the results of the survey are delivered to the KZN government at reduced data processing turnaround time.
