Sod-turning and launch ceremony for the 4 000 Mashabane Rural Housing project

In another critical milestone in human settlements delivery, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works Ravi Pillay will officiate at an historic sod-turning ceremony and launch of a rural housing project in Umhlabuyalingana Municipality in the Far North of KwaZulu-Natal.

Officially called Mashabane Rural Housing Project, the project is expected to yield 4 000 houses spread over four Wards of Umhlabuyalingana Municipality in Umkhanyakude District within the Mashabane Traditional Council.

The R157 million rural housing project will see houses being built in Wards 7, 13, 14 and 15 of Umhlabuyalingana Municipality. During the launch, MEC Pillay will also unveil other human settlements projects earmarked for the Umhlabuyalingana Municipality.

These additional projects amounting to several hundred million Rands have already been approved and are in planning stages. The additional projects will benefit other traditional councils within the Umhlabuyalingana Municipality and their expected yield is in excess of 6 000 beneficiaries.
