KwaZulu-Natal Premier Mr Senzo Mchunu opens the newly renovated Edendale Nursing Campus
On the 1st of March 2014, KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Mr Senzo Mchunu will officially open a newly renovated Edendale Nursing Campus. The campus which caters for nursing training has been renovated at a cost of about R40 million.
Following extensive renovations on campus site, the newly renovated campus boasts of some of the following areas:
- six classrooms with presentation facilities.
- clinic laboratory which simulates a general nursing unit, high care and critical care including obstetric management setting.
- media centre which caters for 35 computers.
- multipurpose hall.
- lecturers and administrative offices.
- disabled friendly ablution facilities.
The official opening of the nursing campus is part of celebrating Edendale Hospital’s 60th anniversary. Under the theme “taking the legacy of Edendale Hospital of 60 years to greater heights for a bright future in service delivery”, the KZN Premier and the MEC for Health, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo will be celebrating and highlighting the milestones of the hospital in it’s 60 years of existence.
Edendale Hospital is a Regional Hospital fully recognized for post-graduate teaching in all major disciplines. With 900 beds, Edendale Hospital is the 4th largest hospital in the country in terms of available beds.
Following the opening of the nursing campus, MEC Dhlomo will officially open a new state of the art Communicable Diseases Clinic (CDC) which costs over R41 million. This multidisciplinary clinic is a one stop centre where integrated health services will be rendered.
This new clinic boasts of some of the following areas:
- ARV pharmacy.
- Consultation rooms.
- Counselling rooms.
- Coughing booth.
- Special waiting area for clients.
To date, Edendale Hospital has initiated over 16,000 patients on ARVs. The CDC will provide HIV management, TB management, STIs management, cervical cancer screening, health screening, pharmacy services, social work services and diet services.
