Minister Thoko Didiza delivers Dr Sam Motsunyane lecture in Pretoria, 27 Oct

The Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Ms Thoko Didiza will deliver the 6th Dr Sam Motsunyane lecture in Pretoria. Dr Sam Motsuenyane is the father and pioneer of Black people. He was President of NAFCOC for 24 years and during that time he founded the African Bank, Black Chain Ltd and Masikela-Mavimbela Scholarship Fund to name a few.

The foundation of the bank took him 10 years to raise R1 million as he started with R75, 00 and not a single cent was lost because he is a champion of good Governance and was a member of King Committee on Corporate Governance 1993-94. The first branch of the African Bank was opened in 1975 at Garankuwa zone 16, Uncle Nuts Complex. After his retirement from NAFCOC presidency in 1992 he served on several commissions such as: the Melamet Commission on remunerations of Politicians 1994, he led the ANC appointed Motsuenyane commission.

In 1994 while serving in parliament as the Senator in the Senate (currently known as NCOP) he was appointed by President Nelson Mandela to be Leader of the House and was also member of different portfolio committees.

In 1996 President Mandela appointed Dr Motsuenyane to the post of Ambassador of South Africa to the 5 Gulf States Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait and Yemen. Amongst the dignitaries to grace the event includes former President Thabo Mbeki, Reserve Bank Govner Mr. Lesetja Kganyago to mention just a few.
