Minister of Environmental Affairs, Dr Edna Molewa to open the 4th Multi-Lateral meeting of the Defence and Security Chiefs On Anti-Poaching in Mpumalanga

The Minister of Environmental Affairs, Dr Edna Molewa, will officially open the 4th Multi-Lateral Meeting of the Defence and Security Chiefs on anti-poaching at the Protea Kruger Gate Hotel in Mpumalanga on 4 April 2018.

The anti-poaching meeting was first held in Botswana in 2014, with subsequent meetings held in Zambia and Zimbabwe.  Defence and Service Chiefs from the Botswana, Namibia, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe Defence Forces, as well as officials in the Departments of Police, Justice, Environmental Affairs and Intelligence are attending the three-day meeting.

Part of the agenda for this 4th meeting in South Africa is for the countries to deliberate on legal issues pertaining to the anti-poaching. It was noted in previous meetings that punishment for convicted poachers is different in the member states and this needs to be standardised.

Media are invited to attend the official opening.
