The Minister of Environmental Affairs, Mrs Edna Molewa will on Saturday, 2 May 2015 lead an outreach visit and clean-up campaign in the Randfontein Local Municipality area. The visit forms part of government’s stakeholder engagement following the recent attacks on foreign nationals in South Africa.
The clean-up campaign is in line with the Department’s waste management policy mandate. It is also a response to President Jacob Zuma’s call during the June 2014 State of the Nation Address, when he urged all South Africans to dedicate time for clean-ups to ensure we live in safe, healthy and environmentally friendly country.
Minister Molewa is heeding the President’s call for outreach engagements in an effort to find a permanent solution in regard to the attacks on foreign nationals. In light of this, the outreach activity and key clean-up campaign will take place in Mohlakeng Hostel in Randfontein. The Minister will be accompanied by the leadership of the Randfontein Local Municipality as they collectively engage with stakeholders on pertinent issues and encourage communities to keep South Africa clean.
On 27 April, South Africa celebrated twenty-one years of democracy.The transition to democracy was one of the world’s most iconic testimonies of tolerance and peaceful co-existence. Government condemns violent attacks on foreign nationals in the strongest terms. Every effort is being made to prevent this situation recurring.
