Minister Barbara Creecy to lead a clean-up event in Philippi, City of Cape Town municipality, on Friday, 10 February 2023

The Minister of the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Ms B Creecy, will lead a clean-up event on Friday, 10 February 2023, in Philippi, City of Cape Town, Western Cape.

The clean-up will target the Monwood Stormwater Pond near the Philippi informal settlement. The area is notorious for serious crimes; it is also where the brutally murdered body of Nomvuzo Atoli was discovered in August 2021 in a container.  

The Minister, City of Cape Town Municipality, Community Policing Forum and Working for Wetlands participants will embark on a clean-up activity. The clean-up is part of the Good Green Deeds Clean-Up Campaign launched by the President. Indigenous trees will also be towards the 10 Million Trees Programme led by the DFFE.
