Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Barbara Creecy, to host international climate change talks report-back meeting, and engage youth on climate issues

The Minister of Environment, Forestry and Fisheries, Ms Barbara Creecy, will on 28 February 2020, host a national dialogue to report back on the outcomes of the international climate change talks held in Madrid, Spain during December 2019.

The dialogue with government entities, business, labour and civil society in the morning (09h00-13h00) will be followed by an engagement with youth on climate change issues (15h00-17h00).

In December 2019, Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) met in Madrid, Spain, for Conference of the Parties (COP 25) to finalise outstanding issues of the Paris Agreement Work Programme.   

The 25th Conference of Parties to the UNFCCC did not reach consensus on most substantive issues, particularly with regard to markets, adaptation as well financing matters. These issues will be considered in 2020 by the subsidiary bodies during the June session in Bonn, Germany as well as COP 26 to be held in the United Kingdom.
