MEC Sihle Zikalala visits Ndwedwe as part of Mandela Month programme, 5 Jul

MEC Zikalala’s Mandela month programme focuses on attending to pressing socio-economic needs of poor communities

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Mr Sihle Zikalala will tomorrow (05 July 2018) begin his Mandela Month programme by visiting different poor communities in the province where amongst other things he will be attending to socio-economic challenges facing the elderly and young people in the poverty stricken rural Ndwedwe area on the north of Durban.

Unpacking the programme ahead of the formal launch of his province wide charitable campaign, Mr Zikalala said: “We have joined forces with various organisations to ensure that we make a difference to people’s lives to honour former President Nelson Mandela’s legacy. We have organised a number of activities which will see us criss-crossing the province in the next three weeks.”

As part of the launch, Mr Zikalala will join hundreds of elderly people who will participate in the three kilometres walk aimed at encouraging healthy lifestyle and fitness. Experts will be on hand to advise the elderly on how to avoid illegal deductions from their social grants & adjustment to the migration of grant beneficiaries to Posbank. This programme will feature equipping senior citizens with basic knowledge & skills on the prevention of criminal acts and abuses that must be reported to the law enforcement agencies.
