MEC Ravigasen Pillay launches KwaBhidla Rural Housing Project in Harry Gwala District, 31 Jan

In keeping with the undertaking to accelerate housing delivery in rural areas, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Human Settlements and Public Works Ravigasen Pillay will tomorrow Thursday 31st January 2019 officiate at the launch of the R54 million KwaBhidla Rural Housing Project in Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality in Harry Gwala District.

Harry Gwala District Municipality Mayor Cllr M.Ndobe and Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Municipality Mayor Cllr P.N. Mncwabe will also join MEC Pillay during the launch ceremony of the 500-units KwaBhidla Rural Housing Project.

As articulated during the recent launch of the election manifesto of the ruling African National Congress (ANC), the provision of sustainable and safe human settlements both in rural and urban areas remain the fundamental policy position of the governing party.

New projects like the one to be launched in KwaBhidla are a testimony to such an undertaking.

Tomorrow’s launch of the KwaBhidla Rural Housing Project will see the first show-house of the project being handed over to the dependants of a deserving beneficiary who was identified through a War Room Operation of Operation Sukuma Sakhe (OSS).

With South Africa celebrating 25 years of democracy this year, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Human Settlements has had its fair share in the contribution through the building of more than 714 000 houses of the more than 4, 7 million homes built nationally since the advent of democracy.

In addition, more than 89 000 housing opportunities through serviced sites have been provided during the past two decades.

The KwaBhidla Rural Housing Project is situated in Ward 11 of the municipality and is the also the birth place of long serving struggle stalwart and consummate diplomat - the present Minister in the Presidency, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma - after whom the amalgamated former Ingwe and KwaSani Municipalities was named in August 2016.

Members of the media are invited to cover this historic milestone in rural housing delivery. The details of the launch are as follows:

Venue: eNkumba Sports Ground, Ward 11, Dr NDZ Municipality
