MEC Peggy Nkonyeni addresses launch of Book Flood campaign, 20 Mar

The MEC for Education in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), Neliswa Peggy Nkonyeni, MPL, is going to give a keynote address during the launch of the Book Flood Campaign at Alexander High School in Pietermaritzburg. The main aim of the book flood campaign is to foster a culture of reading by supplying learners with relevant reading materials.

This campaign is also aimed at increasing availability of story books in public schools by encouraging members of the public and the private sector to participate by donating books and other relevant library material. As part of this campaign, all provinces are expected to organise as individual provinces in order to collect books from all stakeholders for learners that have no access to libraries.

In KZN, this campaign is implemented in collaboration with the South African Booksellers Association and the Midlands Mall. During this launch, many booksellers from the Midlands Mall are going to be present to donate books to the Department. These books will then be donated to schools that have been identified by the department.
