Girl children seek solutions for troubled schools
Over 100 girl children from 26 schools in the Ilembe District will gather in Ballito, north of Durban this week to find ways of address social ills plaguing their schools.
Convened by the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha, the Girls Summit seeks to empower girl children to take full control of their lives and destiny.
The 2014 matric results ranked iLembe as the second lowest performing district in the province. This poor performance was attributed to, amongst other things, the prevalence of social ills such as high pregnancy rate and drug abuse in schools.
As the champion for the District, the MEC strongly believes that girl children hold the key in turning this situation around as they are the ones mostly affected by these challenges.
The Summit will take place as follows:
Date: 19 to 20 March
Venue: Hamphshire Hotel in Ballito
Time: 09h00
