Literature development in Qalakabusha Correctional Centre

The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Arts, Culture, Sport and Recreation, Ntombikayise Sibhidla-Saphetha and Regional Commissioner of Department of Correctional Services Mr Nxele (DCS) will officially handover a copy of the novel to its author who is an inmate at Qalakabusha Correctional facility on Thursday.

The novel won the Department’s Provincial Literature Writing Competition and has been published by Oxford University Press.

Furthermore, the Qalakabusha Reading and Writing club will also receive a donation of books from Oxford University Press and the department. The event will culminate in a poetry writing competition and the best five poems at Qalakabusha together with those from Westville, Eshowe and Sevontein Correctional Centres will be put together and published in the poetry anthology for correctional centres.

To promote the culture of reading and writing in correctional centres, the department has established Reading and Writing Clubs in all correctional centres.
