The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA) will host a municipal finance conference under the banner of “Empowering municipalities towards clean audits” where key stakeholders from local government, both officials and councilors, will exchange ideas about setting and maintaining high financial standards and controls in the interest of accountability in the province’s 61 municipalities.
The conference will also take stock on the progress made towards delivering on the clean audit outcome as one of the apex priorities that was set for municipalities in 2009, and will be attended by the Office of the Auditor-General.
KZN will also unveil municipalities that are its “clean audits shining stars” in the current audit year.
“We are hosting this inaugural conference in anticipation that the values that underpin accountability will, in time, take even firmer root in our municipalities as we guide our local government towards the ultimate goal of clean audits in all municipalities,” said KZN MEC FOR COGTA Nomusa Dube-Ncube who will deliver a keynote address focusing on the role and functions of the newly established Municipal Public Accounts Committees (MPACs) and municipal Audit Committees.
