KwaZulu-Natal Treasury Head to donate shoes to needy learners
Troubled by the pain of seeing learners travelling barefoot to school in chilling winter cold, Head of the Provincial Treasury, Mr Simiso Magagula, has vowed to give a helping hand to the needy learners by donating shoes in eThekwini Municipality.
On Thursday (6 February 2014), Mr Magagula, and eThekwini Mayor, Cllr James Nxumalo, will donate more than 250 pairs of shoes to five schools around the metro to ensure that needy pupils are properly shod this coming winter.
Shoes are a basic human necessity as some of the most dangerous conditions of going barefoot is the risk of puncture wounds, cuts, scrapes and burns to feet which can lead to serious infections, amputations and even death if never properly treated.
The donation of these shoes under the auspices of Operation Sukuma Sakhe aims to restore the pride, dignity and hope of underprivileged learners by providing them with a pair of new school shoes.
We invite journalists to witness the exciting event when Mr Magagula and Mayor Nxumalo distribute shoes at the following schools:
